Affair: Columbia Alumni Interested in Food & Wine: Private Wine Tasting

When: Thursday, October 15, 2015 @ 6:30-9PM

Hot Spot: Society of Illustrators, NYC

Deets: Nearly 100 Columbia alumni and friends were dazzled by Italian world-class wines, highly regarded for their unique personality and character. They were treated to an exclusive tasting and education of six wines that are in limited supply from Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve & a virtual tour of the Villa Mosconi Bertani. Alumni convened at the Society of Illustrators to taste the Bertani family's award winning Lepia Soave, Torre Pieve Chardonnay, Pragal blend of Merlot & Syrah, Ripasso, the very special Decima Aurea Merlot and their Amarone . The wines have created a strong cult following of Italian wine collectors and consumers seeking each new vintage world wide. This was one of only a handful of tastings that will be presented this year.

Giovanni Bertani, proprietor, spoke passionately about the past, present and future of Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve & the Villa Mosconi Bertani. Preceding Bertani, Richard Berenson, past president of The Society of Illustrators took center stage to speak on the Society's mission to promote the art of illustration, its history and it's evolving nature through enlightening exhibitions, lectures and education, and to contribute the service of its members to the welfare of the community at large. Columbia Alumni Food & Wine board members, Lu Han, Amelia Rosen, and David Mills mingled and made their fellow alumni feel welcomed.

All Columbia alumni received a world-class membership for the Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve Winery & Villa Mosconi Bertani VIP Wine Club for first access to new vintages and events at the Villa. Ordinarily, one must visit the winery & estate in Italy to receive a membership. Alumni were treated to handcrafted chocolates and macaroons compliments of Le Cirque New York graciously donated by fellow Columbia alumnus Mauro Maccioni. Alumni who dropped off their business cards at the door were automatically entered to win autographed wine bottles from Bertani's private stock. Three lucky winners each went home with an autographed bottle of Ripasso.

A special thanks goes to the Society of Illustrators for generously donating their space for the evening, Gary Grunner from Grapes on the Go Cellar Direct for his beautiful wine presentation and education, and to our volunteer photographer Marissa Jurmark.
