Affair: 3rd Annual Broadway & Ballet HERO Awards

When: Monday, October 24, 2016 @8PM

Hot Spot: Stage 48, NYC

Over 300 guests were dazzled Monday October 24th by the more than 14 performances from Broadway and Ballet’s leading stars, including solo performances from HERO Honorees Tony Award winner Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line, Broadway HERO Awardee), Ruby Lewis (Cirque du Soleil Paramour, John Adams HERO Awardee), and ABT star Marcelo Gomes. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS was also presented a HERO award. Executive Director Tom Viola was there to accept the award. The awards are given to those organizations and individuals who have gone above and beyond to help the HIV/AIDS community.

"Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS proudly accepts this recognition in honor of the hundreds of thousands of heroes across the country living with HIV and AIDS who, because of our generous supporters, can receive the lifesaving and life-affirming help they need from The Actors Fund and more than 450 social service organizations,” Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola said. “Sharing the evening's spotlight with such dear friends as Donna, Marcelo and Ruby only underscores the deep commitment this community has for working together to make a difference.”

"It is a privilege and honor to receive a 2016 HERO Award and join this elite group of extraordinary individuals in giving back to the community which has given us so much,” says Gomes.

Directed by Patrick Boyd, with technical direction from Tommy Mazza, produced by Stephen Leff, and emcee’d by Jonathan Lovitz (Senior Vice President at the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce), the show raised crucial funding for supporting and expanding the mission of HIV HERO.org, a completely volunteer-based non-profit 501(3)(c) organization founded in 2009 by Michael Cavnaugh, dedicated to providing local, national, and international resources and interactive tools for persons newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

Other performers who donated their time and talent include: LaTrisa Harper, Christopher Jackson, Stephen Hanna, Michael Cusumano, Brandon Leffler, Patrick Boyd, Daniel Lynn Evans, Clifton Oliver, Donna Vaughn, LaMar Baylor, Sean Stewart, Luis Villabon, Morgan Stinnett, Shomari Savannah, Alexis ”Tilly” Evans-Krueger, Melanie Fields, Javon Jones, Sean Rozanski, Seeley Stephens, Nia Coleman, Shannon Weir, and Kadin Andrew Mestas.
