National Building Museum Summer Block Party, DC

When: Saturday, July 4 - Friday, September 4, 2015

Hot Spot: The National Museum, DC

Deets: The National Museum in DC has some exciting plans for the summer!

The Beach

Spanning across the majestic Great Hall, the Museum commissioned Snarkitecture to design The BEACH, which will cover 10,000 square feet and include an “ocean” of nearly one million translucent plastic balls. The BEACH will be open July 4, 2015 through Labor Day, September 7, 2015.

Union Kitchen

As part of our Summer Block Party, we're teaming up with Union Kitchen to provide some local D.C. treats while visitors enjoy the BEACH. The food incubator is providing a menu ranging from gourmet popcorn to s'mores pops to cheese boards.

Beach Late Nights
Time to swim a few more laps! The BEACH and other NBM exhibitions will remain open to the public from 5pm to 9pm. Enjoy summer music, beach games, tours, and other special activities. Snacks and drinks provided by Union Kitchen will be available for purchase. Dates.

Architecture 101

The popular summer series returns this July with overview lectures on several architectural styles: Bio-architecture, Art Nouveau, and traditional Japanese architecture. Attend.
Summer Camp

Our campers experience the world we build for ourselves in new ways—through the building, visual, and performing arts—at one, two, or three unique sessions of the Museum's full-day summer camp. Learn more.
Scaling Washington

Scaling Washington, photographer Colin Winterbottom's debut museum exhibition, features stunning large-scale images of the post-earthquake restoration of the Washington Monument and Washington National Cathedral. Visit.

PLAY WORK BUILD

PLAY WORK BUILD takes children and adults alike through an exploration of play with an immersive, hands-on installation featuring molded foam blocks of all shapes and sizes and an original virtual block play experience. Visit.

HOT TO COLD: an odyssey of architectural adaptation

Following the BIG Maze in the Great Hall this summer, the National Building Museum will present "HOT TO COLD: an odyssey of architectural adaptation," an exhibition featuring the work of BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group. Visit.
