Deets: Heifer International's Beyond Hunger Gala seeks to support and empower marginalized women and honor those who work to raise awareness of the world’s poor and hungry.
The keynote speaker was U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy, Ambassador Deborah L. Birx. The First Lady of Rwanda, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, also attended as a distinguished guest and speaker.
This year the Noble Globe honorees included Chris Gero. Widely regarded as a world-class image-maker, Gero is a Grammy-nominated record producer, concert producer, film director, and the founder and Vice President of Yamaha Entertainment Group of America. He is responsible for the management and branding of Yamaha’s star-studded roster and oversees many of Yamaha’s most successful collaborations, including Elton John, Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney, Norah Jones, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, and many more.
Patrick Rothfuss was also honored. He is the author of The Kingkiller Chronicle and creator of Worldbuilders, an organization dedicated to using the collective power of readers and fellow authors to make the world a better place. Worldbuilders has raised more than $3.5 million for Heifer International.
Tai Lopez, investor, entrepreneur, author and prominent member of the Los Angeles community, was also honored for his generosity to Heifer and deep commitment to making the world a better place. Lopez possesses an inherent desire to help others in any way he can. With more than 1.4 million members in his network worldwide, his influence helps others to achieve their dreams.
Those in attendance enjoyed the evening’s menu created by celebrity chef and co-host, Cat Cora. Other event co-hosts included Kirsten and Jon Heder, Diane Lane, Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder, Holiday Reinhorn and Rainn Wilson, Susan Sarandon, Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson.
This year’s dinner committee was comprised of an outstanding list of prominent entertainment figures, including: Ed Asner, Mehcad Brooks, Janie Bryant, Danielle Campbell, Ben Cohen, Mindy Cohn, David Cross, Carson Daly, Robert Floe, Johnny Hanson, Patricia Heaton and David Hunt, Nina Jacobson, Allison Janney, Mallory Lewis and Lamb Chop, Amy Madigan and Ed Harris, Dana Mathews, Ryan Newman, Bonnie Raitt, Millie and Steve Smith, Octavia Spencer, Ashley Stone, Lucy Schwartz, Arlene Falk Withers, Christi Wohl and Josh Zukerman.
