Deets: This year's gala program aims to build momentum toward WfWI's vision of expanding our work to engage men as allies in supporting women's empowerment. Steadfast in his belief that survivors of rape and sexual violence deserve dignity, justice, and a chance to rebuild, Dr. Mukwege is an international leader fighting for social change for women. Dr. Mukwege has been the recipient of numerous awards worldwide for his advocacy against sexual violence as a weapon of war and is a two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee.

The moving story of Dr. Denis Mukwege and his work at the landmark Panzi Hospital in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is captured in the critically-acclaimed film, The Man Who Mends Women: The Wrath of Hippocrates. Winner of the 2014 Sakharov Prize, Dr. Mukwege is internationally known as the man who not only repairs the bodies of tens of thousands of women who have been raped during the 20 years of conflict in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, but works to restore their lives and address the root causes of violence in DRC.
