Hot Spot: Dolby Screening Room, NYC

Deets: We had the pleasure of taking our 7-year old-son and his friend to the premiere of Ratchet & Clank on April 16 in New York City! After filling out an activity book and indulging in some snacks & drinks we grabbed some Poppy's popcorn and headed into the theatre. It was an exciting experience for us all since we got to preview the film at The Dolby Theatre with surround sound and some seriously high tech 3D glasses!

Based on the PlayStation video game franchise, Ratchet and Clank tells a story about two unlikely heroes who join forces to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

The kids recall playing Ratchet & Clank on PS4 and were immediately drawn to this action-packed movie. Their favorite part about this game, and what was consistent in the movie, is that Ratchet & Clank get to use so many unique and interesting weapons. Ratchet tried out the Combuster, Bomb, Alpha Disruptor, Warmonger, Buzz Blades, Negociator, and the Spiral of Death. The sheepinator (weapon that turns enemies into sheep) was a big hit for our boys! Ratchet and Clank are similar in that they are both loners with no family of their own. Their friendship throughout the movie is both goofy and endearing. Other characters the film centers on are Qwark, Cora, Brax, and Drek.

The adults were impressed with the stunning visuals and exciting soundtracks. We easily identified some of the voices like Sylvester Stallone and Paul Giamiatti. If you are looking for a great flick to watch with the kids you'll enjoy this movie about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering your own identity.

Our family's biggest takeaway from Ratchet & Clank is that "Heroes don't need to do big things. Just the right things!" (A theme throughout the movie)
