Deets: The 17th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) presents its 2017 line-up of 87 competition films. Starting April 26th, for five days, the BHFF hosts red carpet premieres, networking events, panel discussions and after-parties, culminating in the annual Awards Gala held at the Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills (8555 Beverly Boulevard), on Sunday, April 30th. The Opening Night after-party is hosted by the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard.
The festival kicks-off on Wednesday, April 26th, at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres (6925 Hollywood Boulevard) at 6:15p.m with the World Premiere of feature film, “Gun,”starring, written & directed by Sam Upton—a washed up, alcoholic ex-prizefighter who makes a comeback to boxing after his top heavyweight contender son is wrongfully blinded in the ring.
At 6:45 p.m., there is a special screening of Leslie Zemeckis’ “Mabel, Mabel, Tiger Trainer,” a story of the world’s first female tiger trainer who survived multiple maulings and claimed her love for her tigers was so great she wanted “to be killed by my animals,” produced by Leslie’s husband Robert Zemeckis.
At 8:30pm, there is a special screening of the popular and controversial documentary feature-length film, “The Reality of Truth,” which follows Mike "Zappy" Zapolin and his friends, including Michelle Rodriguez, as they attempt to go inside their minds to expand their consciousness. Guided by Deepak Chopra the “Psychenauts” have direct experience with techniques including meditation, breathing, and shamanism over a four year period and learn from today’s top thought leaders, including Joel Osteen, Ram Dass, Marianne Williamson, David Lynch, Foster Gamble, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Peter Coyote, and many more.
Another highlight film of Opening Night is the 8:45 p.m. screening of “An Undeniable Voice”— Sam Harris, believed to be one of the youngest to survive the camps during the Holocaust, shares his amazing story of survival with philanthropist and activist Sharon Stone—a short documentary by directors Price Arana and Adam Rothlein.
