Affair:  Friars Club Annual Gala Honoring Robert DeNiro & Carlos Slim

Deets:  Friar Robert De Niro received the Club’s highest honor, the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award, at the Friars Foundation’s annual gala. The prestigious award has been bestowed only four times in the Club’s 110-year history. Entrepreneur Carlos Slim was also be honored with the Friars Foundation Icon Award for Philanthropy. The black tie reception and silent auction were followed by dinner and a benefit concert. The evening was hosted by Dean Friar Larry King and featured Sting, Aretha Franklin, David Blaine & Stevie Wonder. Onstage well wishes were given by Penny Marshall, Harvey Kietel, Joel McHale, David O' Russell, Edgar Ramirez, Ed Norton, Sharon Stone, Kenan Thompson and Christopher Walken; as well as via video by Ben Stiller, Martin Scorcese, Warren Buffet, Barbara Streisand. The evening ended with a witty and heartfelt acceptance speech by Robert DeNiro (later joined on stage by Carlos Slim). 

Nearby at the Friar's club, an afterparty ensued. Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers and parted with Godiva chocolate gift bags.
