Affair: Driven by Design presented by Cadillac and Architectural Design

When: Friday, September 19, 2014

Hot Spot: 7 World Trade Center,  NeueHouse, Cast Iron House, Chelsea Townhouse, NYC

Deets: The tour began on the 10 floor of 7 World Trade Center, the sleek tower designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Lower Manhattan that marks the gateway to the World Trade Center (WTC) complex. Guests joined September 11 National Memorial designer Michael Arad (spoke on Thursday) or award-winning architect and designer of One World Trade Center David M. Childs (spoke on Friday), who shared their unique perspectives on the new WTC complex during compelling keynote presentations, created exclusively for Driven by Design guests.

Following registration, guests enjoyed a light meal on the 10 floor where they had uninterrupted views of the entire World Trade Center complex, including One World Trade Center (the future home of Architectural Digest and Conde Nast), the newly opened National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and the Santiago Calatrava- designed WTC Transportation Hub.

Following the keynote address, guests departed 7 World Trade Center in the next generation 2015 Cadillac Escalade to explore three additional New York properties, including:

• NeueHouse (Rockwell Group and Cristina Azario Interiors), a radically new work space
• Cast Iron House and Showroom (Shigeru Ban Architects), a modern reinterpretation of a NYC landmark
• Chelsea Townhouse (Fanuka, Inc. and William Suk), a complete renovation of a single-family home

At each location, a docent facilitated the guided tour. In addition, guests learned about the significant architectural and interior design elements of the space through the lens of an architect or designer with intimate knowledge of the property.

Throughout the half-day journey, guests had the opportunity to experience yet another icon of American design: the next generation 2015 Cadillac Escalade. Guests enjoyed luxury chauffeur service along their New York tour route with multiple opportunities to drive. And because good design should inspire and perform, guests got an exclusive preview of Escalade’s industry first technological advancements and handcrafted interior along the way.

Guests were given complimentary gifts, including a MOMA gift card at the end of the tour.
