The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra is the creation of music directors Noah Gladstone and Mark Robertson, both long time musicians in the film and TV industry. Their goal is to once again have a professional orchestra based in Hollywood, with regular concerts and a presence in the community.
Martin Chalifour (Soloist) began his tenure as Principal Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1995. The recipient of various grants and awards in his native Canada, he graduated with honors from the Montreal Conservatory at the age of 18 and then moved to Philadelphia to pursue studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Chalifour received a Certificate of Honor at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and is also a laureate of the Montreal International Competition. Apart from his LA Phil duties he maintains an active solo career, playing a diverse repertoire of more than 60 concertos. Chalifour has appeared as soloist with conductors Pierre Boulez, Gustavo Dudamel, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Neville Marriner, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Outside the U.S., Chalifour has played solos with the Auckland Philharmonia, the Montreal Symphony, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Taiwan, and the Malaysian Philharmonic, among others.
Noah Gladstone (Co-Music Director) is a multi-faceted musician from Los Angeles. A trombonist at his core, he has performed professionally with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera Santa Barbara, New West Symphony, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and Juilliard 415 as well as many other world-class ensembles. In addition to his orchestral experience, he is a regular figure in the Hollywood studio music scene as a trombonist and a music contractor and has produced music for Showtime/CBS, Riot Games, Microsoft, Imagine Dragons, The Weinstein Company, Brand X Music, as well as other media for TV, film, recording artists, video games and advertising. He also manages the musical personnel of the West Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, The San Bernardino Symphony and Opera Santa Barbara. He holds a Bachelors and Masters of Music degree from The University of Southern California.
Mark Robertson (Co-Music Director), graduated from Boston University and The Juilliard School. He has had a varied career in Los Angeles, eventually becoming concertmaster and orchestra contractor for various concerts, films, television shows, and commercials. Currently he is the concertmaster for the television shows Penny Dreadful, Agent Carter, and the recent Emmy-winning score House of Cards, and was concertmaster for the recent films Blackfish, The True Cost, Merchants of Doubt, Ride Along 2, In Your Eyes, and Contagion.
