Deets:
Light and sound merge into one. SAIC Synthesis brings together 14 original works by student pairs who have reimagined THE MART's monumental façade as a canvas for integrated art.
Each collaboration pairs a visual artist with a sound composer. Together, they create works where projection and audio function as interdependent systems—not parallel elements, but unified forces shaped by the architecture and urban space around them.
Step outside after dark and witness art that only exists in the night. Each evening, from 8:30 to 9:00 p.m., the façade transforms as light and sound converge in ways that challenge how we see and hear the city.
Developed under the mentorship of faculty Jan Tichy and Austen Brown from SAIC's Department of Art & Technology/Sound Practices, Synthesis challenges emerging artists to think monumentally about scale, site, and the possibilities of collaborative media.
Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is free and open to the public.
