When: 21 November 2025 – 26 July 2026
10AM-5PM (Monday to Thursday)
10AM– 6PM (Friday to Sunday)

Deets: The Design Museum has been granted unprecedented access to Wes Anderson’s personal archives, which the filmmaker has built up over three decades. This is the first time most of these objects can be seen in Britain.

This landmark exhibition charts the evolution of Wes Anderson’s films from early experiments in the 1990s to recent productions as well as collaborations with key long-standing creative partners. Explore the design stories behind award-winning and iconic films such as ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’, ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ and ‘Isle of Dogs’. From the melancholic charm of The Royal Tenenbaums to the youthful adventure of Moonrise Kingdom, discover how Anderson's unique vision and dedication to detail have created some of the most visually and emotionally compelling films of recent times.

Over 700 objects showcase the director's meticulous craft in filmmaking, from original storyboards, Polaroids, sketches, paintings, and handwritten notebooks to puppets, miniature models, dozens of costumes worn by much-loved characters, and more. The exhibition presents finished props and sets alongside work-in-progress material and maquettes, and explores the variety of traditional and handmade filmmaking techniques that the director continues to celebrate in his work, including iconic puppets used in stop-motion animation.

Highlights include a candy-pink model of the Grand Budapest Hotel, the vending machines from Asteroid City, the FENDI fur coat worn by Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot Tenenbaum in The Royal Tenenbaums, the original stop motion puppets used to depict the fantastical sea creatures in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Mr Fox wearing his signature corduroy suit and show dog Nutmeg alongside miniature sets. The show will also present a screening of Bottle Rocket, Anderson’s first short film, created in 1993.

Some video content in the exhibition contains nudity and strong language and may not be suitable for young children.

Deets: Using iconic performance footage, rarely heard interviews and never-before-seen material selected from thousands of hours of film in the vaults of the David Bowie Archive in New York,  from Space Oddity through Diamond Dogs and ”Heroes” to ★, this show is a celebration of Bowie’s boundless curiosity as a force that connected people across continents and generations, as well as his enduring cultural impact today. Whether you’re reliving the magic or discovering it for the very first time: this is your ticket to the landmark Bowie performances that changed culture forever.

Lightroom’s fully projected 11-metre tall walls and vast open floor become the canvas for a truly one-of-a-kind presentation. Bringing together a wealth of visual material from a wide range of sources, the show combines rare performance footage, photography, drawings, lyrics, personal notes and sketches to craft the most vivid, detailed and immersive visual exploration yet of Bowie’s worlds. Structured in thematic chapters in a looping presentation, You’re Not Alone brings insight into Bowie’s perspective on the subjects most important to him, including: theatricality, spirituality, songwriting, and the transformative power of creativity.

You’re Not Alone makes full use of Lightroom’s unique sound capabilities and specialised HOLOPLOT spatial audio system. Each track in the show has been newly reconfigured by multiple Olivier and Tony award-winning sound designer Gareth Fry (Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, David Bowie Is). Featuring the artist as its sole voice, a story composed from hundreds of interviews spanning a five-decade-long career at the cutting edge of art and culture sees Bowie invite you into his way of thinking like never before.

Bowie Nights: Lates
6pm-10pm – Fridays in May: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

As part of the Bowie Nights programme, David Bowie: You’re Not Alone will open late every Friday in May. Whether it’s your first time joining us in the many worlds of David Bowie, or you’re coming back to relive the magic again (…and again!), Lates are the hottest ticket in town to the iconic performances that saw Bowie redefine culture forever: from the stalls of the Hammersmith Odeon in 1973 through to 2016, via festival stages, sound studios, music videos and everything in between. This is You’re Not Alone as it’s meant to be enjoyed – together.

Each Late will be themed to a different era of Bowie’s career: 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and an all-encompassing finale. Come dressed in your best Bowie looks – with prizes available for best dressed – and expect special cocktails and DJs til late in the foyer bar. Oh, and don’t forget your dancing shoes… Book now via the main show picker above.
