Deets: Academy Award-winning writers/directors Joel and Ethan Coen are responsible for a catalogue of movie losers scrambling for love, fortune, and dignity; ranging from the noir of their debut, 1984’s Blood Simple, to the B-12 comedy jags of The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? to the (almost) true story of winter wasteland murder cavalcade Fargo to the adaptations of True Grit and No Country for Old Men. Their newest film, Hail, Caesar!, a period piece set in 1950s Hollywood, reunites the Coens with performing regulars Josh Brolin (No Country, True Grit), George Clooney (O Brother), Frances McDormand (Fargo), Scarlett Johansson (The Man Who Wasn’t There), and Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading), and newcomers Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, and Channing Tatum. Studio troubleshooter Eddie Mannix (Brolin) pushes through the veils of before-the-cameras drama to find the truth behind a real-life drama—the story of a cast member who disappears during studio production.
