Deets: Join the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) for a Firsthand Experience Workshop in the new studio/classroom. These programs bring contemporary artists together with learners ages 13 and up for hands-on programs that combine making, gallery conversations and discovery.

Experiment with color and texture to make abstract monotypes and sew a luminous, long-stitch journal with artist Jamila Zahra Felton, who explores memory, identity, love, self-care and Black futures. Jamila’s artist books and zines are in NMWA’s collection: her artist book The Deep End: Or, Some of Us Learned How to Swim (2016) was included in the exhibition DMV Color (2019–20). Jamila is a member of Pyramid Atlantic and was its inaugural Gregory Vita Paper Arts Resident. Jamila also blossoms as a librarian and educator and lives with her family in the Washington, D.C., metro area.

Art supplies provided. No experience required.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Registration is required: $25; $22 students, seniors and D.C. residents; $20 NMWA members.
