Deets: Beginning Friday, November 21, the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC reintroduces its beloved Holiday Afternoon Tea—a festive ritual wrapped in luxury and set within the grandeur of the historic landmark.

Available Thursday through Sunday with seatings at 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM, the experience ($120 per person, or $200 for the premium service) features a decadent menu of seasonal savories and sweets — from Pomegranate Fig Tart with Brûléed Brie and Smoked Whitefish on Tomato Bread, to Cranberry Brie Thyme Scones with Devonshire Cream and a Caramel Banana Petit Gâteaux almost too pretty to eat. Each tier pairs beautifully with an artful tea selection, including Chocolate Peppermint Truffle, Nutcracker, and Sugar Plum Fairy blends, brewed tableside.

With its soaring atrium, glittering tree, and live harpist, afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria is arguably the most elegant way to toast the season in the capital.

Deets: This season, the National Building Museum is delighted to welcome back the Winter Skate Spectacular—returning for its second year in an even bigger, better, and brighter form.

 This one of a kind, indoor synthetic ice-skating experience transforms the Museum’s Great Hall into a winter wonderland where visitors of all ages can  skate beneath the soaring Corinthian columns. Events will include early hours for younger skaters, themed nights, festive snacks and drinks, and more!

From lively after-hours events for adults to joyful moments for families, there’s plenty to keep the spirit of the holidays alive well into the new year.

Deets: After the sun goes down, our East Building comes to life with music, art, and dance. This is your chance to see a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition after hours. The Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art—the largest display of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art ever shown outside Australia—inspires our evening. Immerse yourself in the sounds and vibrations of the didgeridoo. Weave your own textiles inspired by works in the exhibition. Then, come up to the Roof Terrace to enjoy modern masterpieces under the night sky.

Hint for the Average Socialite: The event is FREE but registration is through a lottery system. Lottery opens Monday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m. and closes Thursday, November 6, at noon. Additional passes are available at the East Building entrance—first come, first served—starting at 5:30 p.m.

Deets: National Children’s Museum invites community members, museum supporters, and new friends to its much-anticipated fall fundraiser, “Curiosity + Cocktails,” on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. This exclusive after-hours event gives guests the rare chance to rediscover their inner child while supporting hands-on STEAM education for children across the region.

Decadent desserts and complimentary craft cocktails will be served throughout the night, and a live DJ will be spinning nostalgic hits from the '90s and early 2000s. In addition to open exploration of the exhibit floor, guests can “build their own adventure” as they make their way through several playful pop-up experiences and engage in interactive science and art activations.

“All proceeds from 'Curiosity + Cocktails' directly support our mission to inspire children to care about and change the world through accessible, hands-on STEAM learning,” said Kiryn Hoffman, President and CEO of National Children’s Museum.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Tickets for $150 per person are available starting September 15. Interested parties can sign up here to be notified when tickets are released. Creative cocktail attire is encouraged.

Deets: This November 1, experience Día de los Muertos at The Wharf during a vibrant celebration in partnership with the Mexican Cultural Institute, Fiesta DC and Modelo

Join for a festive afternoon filled with cultural expression and family-friendly fun. Guests will enjoy live music from the Latin Celtic band La Unica, dance performances, a Modelo beer garden, and interactive stations including face painting and sugar skull decorating. Dress the part in your most colorful and authentic ensemble, snap a photo with our life-sized sugar skull display and explore beautiful, hand-crafted altars that pay tribute to lost loved ones.

Don’t miss vibrant cultural performances featuring De Colores, Ballet Folklorico El Tepeyac and Fundación Elena.

As the sun sets, help light up the night during our community light procession along the waterfront. Starting at M Street Landing (near Hell’s Kitchen) and ending at the Grove (near The Pendry), guests will receive LED candles to carry in a glowing tribute to life and remembrance.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Celebración Día de los Muertos at The Wharf is free to attend: no tickets are needed. You must be 21+ to consume alcohol. Festivities will take place from M Street Landing (adjacent to 604 Water Street St. SW) to 7th Street.

Deets: The Stacks, DC's newest waterfront neighborhood, invites you to Mahjong at The Stacks – a new, free three-week series in partnership with DC Mahj Collective. Whether you’re a seasoned player or brand-new to the game, the series offers a fun, inclusive way to sharpen your strategy and show off your skills.

Each week, guests can choose between learner sessions, with guided instruction and open play supported by roving instructors, or independent play sessions for seasoned players ready to dive straight into the action. With tables set for every skill level, Mahjong at The Stacks is the perfect midweek escape for curious newcomers and competitive players alike.

Guests can also enjoy complimentary charcuterie boards, a tea station and beer and wine as they play. Plus, by sharing their Mahjong moments on social media, attendees will be entered to win a $100 gift card to The Point, a neighborhood favorite restaurant and bar.
