SWITCH POP-UP BAR, VA

Deets: Guests can experience the Alice In Wonderland-themed “The Rabbit Glass” on the ground level and the nineties-themed “Back in ‘93” in the basement. Both concepts have unique cocktails to match with a shared food menu and are set to change approximately every three months.

Walk into the world of Alice in Wonderland and explore hypnotic murals by local artist Jesse Smith of Loose Screw Tattoo and national artist Miguel De Cuadro, and 3D installations with giant flowers and clocks lining the walls. Imaginative cocktails include the “Hendrick’s Tea Party” served with teapot and teacups, “The White Rabbit” served in glassware made exclusively for the event, and others featuring whimsical garnishes like dry ice, edible flowers, and glitter.

When you’ve finished upstairs, take a trip down the rabbit hole to the basement level, home to theme number two: “Back in ‘93.” Walls feature murals by Ink Master artists Halo and Lalo, local mural artist, Nightowl, and Jen Bean from Loose Screw Tattoo. You’ll find nostalgic items at every turn and cocktails pay homage to some of our favorite 90’s music and shows. Cocktails feature retro garnishes such as Gushers, Pop Rocks and candy cigarettes and the 2Pacolada comes complete with his red bandana.

42ND ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, DC

honors_header_img.jpg

Deets: “The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates icons who, through their artistry, have left an indelible stamp on our collective cultural consciousness,” stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. “Earth, Wind & Fire’s hooks and grooves are the foundation of a seminal style that continues to shape our musical landscape; Sally Field has brought us unforgettable characters, both joyous and poignant, for more than five decades; Linda Ronstadt is the defining voice of a generation, spanning genres, languages, and continents; Sesame Street continues to revolutionize how children and adults learn about our world; and Michael Tilson Thomas goes far beyond keeping score: he has shaped American music and musical institutions for the 21st century.”

“In this class of honorees, we are witnessing a uniquely American story: one that is representative of so many cultural touchstones and musical moments that make our nation great,” said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. “When I look at this class, I see the hopes, aspirations, and achievements not just of these honorees, but of the many generations they have influenced and continue to influence. We’re not just looking back; these honorees are urging us to look forward as well.”

The 42nd annual Kennedy Center Honors marks the first time a television program will receive the award. The co-founders of Sesame Street, Joan Ganz Cooney and Dr. Lloyd Morrisett, will accept the Kennedy Center Honors on behalf of the show, Muppets creator Jim Henson, seminal Muppets artists Caroll Spinney and Frank Oz, and the thousands of creatives who have built the program’s 50-year legacy.

On Sunday, December 8, in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment, the 2019 Honorees will be saluted by today’s leading performers from New York, Hollywood, and the arts capitals of the world. Seated in the Box Tier of the iconic Kennedy Center Opera House, the Honorees will accept the recognition and gratitude of their peers through performances and tributes.

The Kennedy Center Honors medallions will be presented on Saturday, December 7, the night before the Gala, at a State Department dinner. The Founding Chair of the State Department dinner is Elizabeth Stevens.

The Honors recipients recognized for their contributions to American culture through the performing arts—whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television—are confirmed by the Executive Committee of the Center’s Board of Trustees. The primary criterion in the selection process is excellence. The Honors are not designated by art form or category of artistic achievement; the selection process, over the years, has produced balance among the various arts and artistic disciplines.

THE CHINESE STREET MARKET POP-UP, DC

THE CHINESE STREET MARKET POP-UP, DC

  • 700 Block F Street NW Washington D.C. (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS
thumbnail_image.png

Deets: Over the last 30 years, the Washington, D.C. Chinatown area underwent a drastic gentrification process that caused property values to increase significantly. Many East Asian-American restaurant proprietors and small business owners were forced to sell, close, or move out to suburban areas offering cheaper commercial space.

We here at the Chinese Street Market are striving to build a community that supports the preservation of Chinese culture in Chinatown. To that end, we’re starting with bringing D.C. a Chinese street market atmosphere, where local vendors will offer irresistible snacks and eats based on East Asian street-food concepts, including Dan Dan Noodles, BBQ Skewers and Ma Po Tofu, and many more! This is the first scheduled market and will be recurring every month on a seasonal basis if it meets the demand. How often we can host the market depends on how much you want and care about it. We are calling your support to become our market partners and ambassadors. We hope that this cultural and culinary market will increase the visitation for authentic food in Chinatown which eventually help revitalize and preserve the historical and meaningful culture of the area.Carefully Picked and Proudly presented :

LE DÎNER EN BLANC, DC

6:00 PM18:00

LE DÎNER EN BLANC, DC

Deets: At the last minute, the secret location is revealed to thousands of friends who have all been patiently waiting to learn where “Dîner en Blanc” will take place. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.
Over the course of the evening, guests experience the beauty and value of their city's public spaces by participating in the unexpected. Beyond the spectacle and elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by good taste and a love of beauty. Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamor of high French society, and guests engage one another, knowing that they are taking part in a truly magical event. There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic—only amazed and astonished looks from passersby observing the scene before them. And participants, like spectators, wonder whether it's all not a dream…

Hint for the Average Socialite: Participation in this unique event happens in three stages: Phase 1 is for members from the previous year; Phase 2 is for new members who are referred by Phase I attendees; and Phase 3 is for people who signed up on the waiting list.

To maintain the uniqueness of Le Dîner en Blanc as well as stay true to tradition, guests must observe certain requirements and follow a few key rules:

  • Once confirmed, each guest’s participation becomes mandatory, regardless of weather conditions. This is a rain or shine event.

  • Dress code: elegant and white only. Originality is encouraged as long as it is stylish and tasteful.

  • ·Table setting: All white!

  • Champagne and/or wine. Beer and hard liquor prohibited.
