Deets: The Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) announced its fourth annual BMAC Gala, a celebration that will feature passionate artists, executives, and activists who have used their platform to inspire social justice in the music industry. Presented by Live Nation, the star studded Gala will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, CA.
In addition to honoring the award recipients, the event will highlight BMAC’s ongoing efforts to further racial equity and justice in the music industry. Through its guaranteed income and mentorship programs, including BMAC x Academy of Country Music (ACM) “OnRamp,” BMAC Music Maker Guaranteed Income and Mentorship Program in partnership with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, BMAC x Victoria Monét Music Maker Grant, The Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Music Maker Grants, the organization has uplifted Black creatives by providing them with financial resources to support their ongoing successes. BMAC is helping to fuel the next generation of artists and executives with program graduates moving to paid internships and full time job placements across the industry. BMAC has also become an undeniable political force, using the power of music and the music industry to support policy change, including the Create Art Act, the RAP ACT, SAG-AFTRA’s Sound Recording Deal, endorsing open letters to President Biden calling for action in the fight for racial equity and protection of Artists, as well as co-covening the first ever congressional briefing on racial equity legislation in partnership with the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC), United by Equity (UBE), U.S. Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Movement, Why We Can’t Wait National Reparations Coalition.
Over the last few months, BMAC held three forums, Act I - III A Conversation Around: "Three Chords and the Actual Truth," in NYC, LA, and Nashville which featured panel discussions with Black country leaders such as Alice Randall, Mickey Guyton, INK, Reyna Roberts and Rissi Palmer. The forums provided a space for honest conversation with an intention to create inclusion for Black talent who have historically been excluded from artistic and economic success within country music, despite a legacy of origination and contribution. The conversations build on the 2022 BMAC Report, Three Chords and the Actual Truth, which was a call to action to Music Row to commit to change and equity in the music industry. Most recently, BMAC hosted its third annual Music Business Accelerator Program at HBCU Tennessee State University, a three week intensive curriculum that provides young Black music Artists and executives the tools and connections needed to source and succeed in industry jobs.
