have both become popular go-to for DJ’s, tastemakers, and music lovers
worldwide.
The Gumbo Brothers- 12:30pm-1:30pm
The Gumbo Brothers is a Los Angeles based New Orleans style funk and jazz band founded in 2002 by guitarist and vocalist Johann Stein. Over the years the band has released
albums, performed internationally and have been featured on television shows.
The Gumbo Brothers are often featured at local Los Angeles public concerts and
perform weekly at clubs in Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles, most recently at
Santa Monica’s Americana in the Park.
Ink Painting Workshop with Faith-Ann Young - 12pm-5pm
Join Camera Obscura Artist-in-Residence Faith-Ann Young for Sumi-e Free Expression, an outdoor art workshop inspired by traditional Japanese ink painting. Participants will use
brushes, ink, and water to paint expressive studies of seasonal plants and
branches drawn from a winter still-life tablescape. In her work, artist
Faith-Ann creates meditative spaces where the community can slow down,
reconnect, and explore creativity through flow and observation.
Printmaking Workshop with Metzli Projects - 12pm-5pm
Meztli Projects creates artistic opportunities for
Native and Indigenous Artists as-well-as systems-impacted youth living and
creating in Los Angeles County (Tovaangar). In this hands-on printmaking
workshop entitled “LOVE NOTES TO KURUVUNGNA,” honoring our plant and animal
relatives of Santa Monica. Using linoblocks inspired by Tongva basketry
patterns, plants and animals, create unique prints layering colors, patterns
and designs.
Mega Majhong with the Recreation and Arts Department - 12pm-5pm
The Recreation and Arts Department focuses on efforts and
initiatives that serve communities through its social, cultural and
recreational programming.
Play with giant lifesize mahjong tiles—a viral sensation sweeping across Asia. Experience the game like never before, surrounded by fresh air and community energy.
Care Cafe - 12pm-5pm
City of Santa Monica's 150th Anniversary Microgrant Awardee, Sanyu Estelle, presents Care Cafe, providing free, culturally authentic healing services to ensure equitable wellness access for all. Similar to the “Repair Cafe” Model, but focused on wellness, explore Readings, Sessions, and Consultations for the community with practitioners of
diverse traditions and modalities. Each practitioner has over a decade of
practice in their modality, including Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, African and
European traditions and practices.
