Deets: In celebration of Criterion’s 40th anniversary, the Criterion Mobile Closet is rolling into Santa Monica for a special pop-up in collaboration with the American Cinematheque’s Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair series. Open to the public and completely free, the experience will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Inside the mobile closet, film enthusiasts will find over 1,000 physical releases from the Criterion Collection, including box sets and titles from the Eclipse and Janus Contemporaries series. Visitors will get a three-minute window to explore the shelves, with groups of up to five allowed in at a time. Guests can also film their own “Criterion Closet” video, sharing their favorite picks à la Ayo Edebiri, and walk away with a Polaroid snapshot of their selections, a complimentary tote bag, and a pocket guide (while supplies last).

Plus, select Criterion titles will be available for purchase at 40% off, and a curated collection of branded merch will also be for sale. It's a rare chance for cinephiles to stock up on favorites and celebrate four decades of iconic cinema.
