Deets: Celebrate the new year at the Japanese Heritage Shōya House with traditional Shōgatsu (New Year’s) activities—including taiko drumming, botanical craft-making, and ikebana floral arrangements at this event for visitors of all ages.

Taiko Drumming: Experience the powerful and rhythmic sounds of the centuries-old tradition of kumi-daiko drumming with a performance by Makoto Taiko, a group of percussionists from Pasadena. Half-hour performances at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Botanical Craft: Create your own Shimenawa wreath using rice from our annual harvest and welcome good fortune in the new year. 

Ikebana Floral Arrangements: Enjoy the meditative beauty of the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement with The Huntington’s San Marino League Ikenobo School of Ikebana.
