Deets: Staging additional festive activities in celebration of the Lunar New Year to attract a broad audience to Chinatown during the 70’s, a group of volunteers focused on an event which could draw a large and diverse audience to Chinatown.
Starting humbly with a 10K Run, L.A Chinatown Firecracker has evolved decades later to host the largest Lunar New Year 5K Run/Walk, 20 & 50 Mile Bike Rides, a Kiddie Run and a Paw’er Dog Walk event in the United States. The annual event now attracts over 20,000 spectators and about 9,000 participants over a two-day period in celebration of the Chinese Lunar holiday. Proceeds from the annual event are donated back to the Chinatown and surrounding communities.
L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, Inc. (LACFRC) is a non-salaried group of volunteers who donate their time and energy to organize and stage events and programs promoting health, fitness, and cultural awareness to the greater Los Angeles community.
