Deets: Cast Aside the Clouds brings a powerful, cross-cultural love story to LA, offering a rare and intimate look at life in modern-day Iran through the lens of love, identity, and resilience.
The film follows Layla, a young Baha’i woman, and Sasan, a secular doctor, whose relationship challenges deeply rooted beliefs and societal norms. As their connection grows, the story becomes a reflection on moral courage, independent thought, and the personal cost of confronting systemic prejudice.
Written and directed by Mary Darling and inspired by real experiences, the film presents a nuanced portrayal of Iranian life rarely seen in Western cinema, grounded in everyday moments and human connection.
The film will screen at Lumiere Cinema from June 4–June 11, with daily showtimes and a special opening night Q&A.
