Deets: New Yorkers can put their spelling skills to the test and receive a free snack thanks to a one-of-a-kind “Pay With Words” vending machine created in celebration of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The ‘pay with words’ vending machine selects words of varying difficulty to test users—just like the Spelling Bee contestants—and accepts correctly spelled words as currency for a tasty snack. We’re inviting amateur spellers to give it a try!

The Hillshire Farm SNACKED! brand, an official sponsor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, will install the machine for a limited time in the Flatiron District (5th Ave between 25th and 26th St) before taking it to the Bee in Maryland, where it will offer contestants the brain fuel needed to take home the championship.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Listen as the machine announces a word

  2. When prompted, simply spell the word using the touch screen keypad

  3. The vending machine will dispense a free Hillshire Farm SNACKED! snack pack (comprised of meat, cheese and a sweet treat) for every word spelled correctly

Hint for the Average Socialite: The vending machine is free & open to the public on May 25th (between 11AM-6PM) in the Flatiron District (5th Ave between 25th and 26th St.
