The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala®) / May 4
Met Gala Exhibition Dates: / May 10 – January 10, 2027

Deets:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, Costume Art, which will examine the centrality of the dressed body, juxtaposing objects from across the Museum’s vast collection with historical and contemporary garments from The Costume Institute. The exhibition will be the first show in The Met’s new nearly 12,000-square-foot Galleries adjacent to the Great Hall, which will display The Costume Institute’s annual spring exhibition and transform visitors’ experience at this important nexus of the Museum. Costume Art will be on view at The Met Fifth Avenue from May 10, 2026, through January 10, 2027.

To celebrate the opening of the spring 2026 exhibition, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala) on Monday, May 4. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will co-chair the Gala Host Committee, with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult. Additional members of the Host Committee and the evening’s dress code will be announced at a later date. The Met Gala® takes place annually on the first Monday in May, with proceeds providing The Costume Institute with its primary source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and operations. The funds raised also support other Museum activities.

Focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, Costume Art will be organized into a series of thematic body types that reflect their ubiquity and endurance through time and space. These comparisons will highlight the inextricable relationship between clothing and the body and reveal that artistic representations of the body are shaped by the garments that clothe them and that the garments, in turn, are shaped by the bodies which they clothe.

In recognition of a significant lead gift from Condé Nast, the new nearly 12,000-square-foot Galleries will be named for the company’s founder, the late Condé M. Nast. Additional generous contributions toward the renovation are provided by Thom Browne, and Michael Kors and Lance Le Pere. Further support is provided by Met Trustee Aerin Lauder, Tory Burch LLC, Nancy C. and Richard R. Rogers, as well as Met Trustee Amy Griffin and John Griffin.

The exhibition and Benefit are made possible by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.

Additional support is provided by Saint Laurent and Condé Nast.

The catalogue is made possible by Saint Laurent.

Hint for the Average Socialite: The Met Gala is strictly invitation only. The Costume Art Exhibition is open to the public.

Deets:
The Brooklyn Museum Presents North American Debut of Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses.

Opening May 16, 2026, the exhibition showcases over 140 haute couture creations alongside contemporary art, design, and scientific artifacts, inviting visitors to explore how Van Herpen merges craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and pioneering aesthetics.

The groundbreaking exhibition Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses pays tribute to one of today’s most revolutionary fashion designers working at the intersection of art and science. A pioneer in her use of cutting-edge technologies, Iris van Herpen defies the limits of conventional fashion while embracing both traditional couture craftsmanship and innovative materials and techniques. Furthering the Brooklyn Museum’s legacy of landmark fashion exhibitions and its commitment to championing trailblazing women in art and design, Sculpting the Senses marks Van Herpen’s first major New York exhibition.

Debuting in 2023 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the exhibition has since traveled to Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Singapore’s ArtScience Museum, and Kunsthal Rotterdam. It will make its North American debut at the Brooklyn Museum on May 16, 2026, timed with the Museum’s annual Brooklyn Artists Ball, where Van Herpen will be honored. The exhibitionis curated by Cloé Pitiot, Curator of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Contemporary Design, and Louise Curtis, Assistant Curator, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. The Brooklyn Museum presentation is supported by the Simons Foundation and is part of its “Infinite Sums” initiative. It is organized by Matthew Yokobosky, Senior Curator of Fashion and Material Culture, with Imani Williford, Curatorial Assistant, Photography, Fashion, and Material Culture.

Fascinated by the complexity of nature and the power of science, Van Herpen transforms scientific concepts into visionary fashion. Drawing from wide-ranging fields spanning mathematics, neuroscience, marine biology, paleontology, mycology, mineralogy, astronomy, and more, her haute couture designs seamlessly merge art, science, and technology—evoking the often unseen structures of nature, from coral reefs and branching systems of fungi to the vast patterns of planetary motion.

Taking visitors from the depths of the ocean to the outer reaches of the universe, Sculpting the Senses illuminates the core questions of the designer’s practice—about the body in space, its relationship to fashion and the environment, and its future in a rapidly changing world. Featuring themes that explore the mystery and might of water, the architecture of the skeleton and anatomical systems, the physics of motion, the perception of sound and light, and the generative interconnectedness of nature, each section in the exhibition showcases Van Herpen’s innovative approach to materials, movement, and technology. Her designs reflect the dynamic systems of the natural world, achieving the impossible with water-like sculptural gowns and air-like fabrics. Sculpting the Senses also includes an evocation of the designer’s atelier, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage firsthand with the handcraftsmanship and tactile nature of couture creation.

Over 140 of Van Herpen’s avant-garde designs are placed in dialogue with works of contemporary art—by artists including Philip Beesley, Lanny Bergner, Rogan Brown, the Collectif Mé, Casey Curran, Wim Delvoye, Kim Keever, Nick Knight, Jacques Rougerie, David Spriggs, and Tim Walker. The exhibition also features design pieces by Ferruccio Laviani, Tomáš Libertíny, and Ren Ri alongside loans of scientific artifacts and natural history specimens, such as coral, fossils, and skeletons. The exhibition’s interdisciplinary nature thus nods to the Museum’s 1890 origins as the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, which held both fine art and scientific specimen collections.

Situating Van Herpen’s work within a broad lineage of cross-disciplinary creativity, the Brooklyn presentation will feature new works drawn from its renowned collections in American art, Asian art, contemporary art, and feminist art as well as rare materials from the Museum’s Libraries and Archives. Featured artists include Katsumata Chieko, Tara Donovan, Harold Edgerton, Senju Hiroshi, Fujikasa Satoko, and Rob Wynne. Together, this intricate and fantastical display offers an intimate glimpse into Van Herpen’s artistic process, her expansive imagination, and her diverse sources of inspiration. The exhibition is complemented by a multisensory soundscape created by Dutch composer and music producer Salvador Breed.

Born in 1984, Iris van Herpen grew up in the Dutch riverside village of Wamel, where she fostered her close connection to nature. From a young age, she was influenced creatively by her passion for the natural world and classical dance, both of which are central to her design ethos. In 2007 she founded the Maison Iris van Herpen in Amsterdam, where she combined the subtleties of couture craftsmanship with the spirit of innovation. She became the first designer to show a 3D-printed dress on the runway with her 2010 Crystallization collection. Her sculptural designs have been worn by luminaries worldwide, including Beyoncé, Björk, Jordan Roth, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Naomi Campbell, Rosalía, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Zoë Kravitz.

Opens June 11
This is a Permanent Installation

Deets:
Edge NYC, the highest indoor/outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, located at Hudson Yards, will debut a new permanent indoor immersive experience on June 11, 2026. The new experience will include NYC’s largest kaleidoscope, a dazzling two-story tall display of 200 spinning, kinetic mirrors and five more multi-sensory, all-weather installations that each playfully reimagine the lights, colors and sounds of New York City. Set against the city’s most dramatic skyline view, Edge’s redesigned indoor experience shows the city in a whole new light.

Seven new installations will surround visitors in the magic of the city before taking a single step outside to the Edge outdoor observation deck. These indoor environments include:

  • Prism: Your experience begins here as you walk through the lens of an ever-changing prism, where shifting images of New York City are refracted into changing angles, colors and patterns.

  • Pulse: More than 350 glowing, color-changing globes surround you, acknowledging your movement with pulses of white light that create a unique visual experience for every guest.

  • Skyrise: Feel the speed of the city as you enter a cinematic elevator experience with visuals and sound that simulate the wonder and energy of rising 100 floors above Manhattan in less than a minute.

  • Reflections: Step into a forest of 200 spinning mirrored surfaces that dazzle with responsive light shows, each turning to look at you as you explore the kinetic sculpture.

  • Kaleidoscope: Journey through a series of giant kaleidoscope rooms - including NYC’s largest kaleidoscope - where light and color shift and reflect all around you, set to original music. Nearby spaces feature changing patterns, photo spots and interactive elements that evolve throughout the day.

  • Crystal Cave: Step beneath a 25-foot canopy of giant crystals that catch the light and cast rainbows on the floor as you move through the installation.

  • Infinite City: Explore 18 large-scale, light-filled columns inspired by New York City skyscrapers, with mirrored and translucent surfaces that reflect the skyline and respond to guest movement through waves of color and sound.

Edge NYC is known for its 1,131-foot-high outdoor observation deck and 360-degree skyline views. The new indoor journey expands the experience beyond the view by adding environments that change by time of day, guest movement and light conditions.

To pull off this massive creative feat, Hudson Yards Experiences, the team behind Edge NYC, collaborated with globally renowned experiential design and entertainment studios, including Moment Factory, Journey and SOFTlab.

Edge NYC’s indoor transformation also includes an all-new Skyline Bar & Café by Tao Group Hospitality. The menu, led by Tao Group Hospitality’s Chief Culinary Officer, Chef Ralph Scamardella, features an elevated assortment of breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks inspired by New York City’s most iconic dishes, including mini smoked bagel bites, babka pastry sticks, Wagyu hot dogs, mini cannolis and more. The 6,000 square foot dining and events space above Edge has also been reinvented through a complete physical transformation inspired by Manhattan’s iconic Art Deco architecture. The new culinary and nightlife offerings from Tao Group Hospitality include a reimagined Peak with Priceless restaurant, all-new Avenue Sky Lounge and the seasonal return of Marquee Skydeck at Edge.

Be among the first to see the next chapter in the Outlander universe with an advance screening of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, followed by a conversation with stars Jeremy Irvine, Jamie Roy, and Harriet Slater, executive producer Maril Davis with Reshma Gopaldas.

A prequel to the beloved Outlander series — a perennial 92NY audience favorite — Blood of My Blood turns back the clock to explore the love stories that came before Jamie and Claire. It’s a story of passion and fate, family and inheritance — and the extraordinary circumstances that set the stage for one of television’s most enduring romances. In Season One, we saw how these two young couples met and fought to be together against all odds. Longtime “Outlander” fans and newcomers alike were surprised to learn the impact and influence these two couples had in each other’s lives as their paths intersected. In the second season, our lovers are separated once again as the Scottish Highlands are split in two by the 1715 Jacobite Rising, thrusting the clans into war and forcing them to choose a side in the rebellion.

Following the screening, Irvine, Roy, and Slater join Davis and Gopaldas for a behind-the-scenes look at expanding the world of Outlander: inhabiting characters whose legacies fans already know, building two new love stories, exploring new time periods, and finding new surprises in a story with deep roots.

Deets: On September 19 and 20, 50 life-sized buffalo puppets will roam free through the streets of Lower Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn as part of Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi, an interactive public art experience.

150 New Yorkers will maneuver the buffalo puppets through city streets, interacting with the audience and inviting them to join the march. Live performances, tribal ceremonies, and activations with acclaimed actors, civic leaders, gospel choirs, dance troupes, marching bands, prominent musicians, and tribal leaders will animate parks, plazas, and squares along the route.

Return of the Buffalo was created by Amir Nizar Zuabi in partnership with elders from Lenape and Lakota Tribes. Presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Walk Productions, and KBH Arts, the two-day event is presented by the same team behind Little Amal, a 12-foot-tall puppet of a refugee girl from war-torn Syria, and her 10-day walk across New York City in 2022. The buffalo, our national mammal, is a symbol of resilience, reckoning, and repair and was chosen for its connection to North America’s original people.

Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is open to the public. The project invites 150 New Yorkers from all walks of life to animate and perform inside the life-size buffalo puppets. All other New Yorkers and visitors are welcome to join the herd as it moves through the city this September.  To learn more, visit stannswarehouse.org. Stay tuned for event details including dates and times will be announced in the coming weeks.

We invite you to this year’s German-American Oktoberfest at SummerStage, Rumsey Playfield in Central Park! Join us for a lively celebration of friendship, music, food, and drink at the biggest Oktoberfest festival in New York City.

The Oktoberfest tradition began over 200 years ago, when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony on October 12, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held in the fields outside the city gates to celebrate the royal wedding—an event that grew into a 16-day festival.

Today, that celebration lives on as Oktoberfest, the world’s largest Volksfest, held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany—and celebrated around the world.

THE FROZEN SURFBOARD INSTALLATION IN TIMES SQUARE, NYC

@gauchosdelmar

Download our Free App & Subscribe to our Newsletter for More NYC Events

Deets: On September 22, 2026, a surfboard from an Antarctic expedition will stand trapped inside a large block of ice at Father Duffy Square, in Times Square. Over the course of the day the ice gives way, and the board is slowly released — the centerpiece of a public installation backing the creation of a marine protected area west off the Antarctic Peninsula - the so-called Domain 1 MPA.

The performance, The Frozen Surfboard, is part of the international campaign around Antarctica — Domain One, a documentary by Gauchos del Mar produced with A Small Company and accompanied by Fundación Marejada. In New York, the action is presented in partnership with the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC), during Climate Week NYC, when thousands of delegates, journalists, and visitors move through the city.

There is no screen and no stage. In one of the most photographed public spaces in the United States, people come upon the board sealed in ice and stop to watch it slowly work free. The surfboard is the center of the piece: the same one the Azulay brothers surfed in Antarctica, carried from the far south to the middle of Manhattan.

Deets:
Avengers fans, assemble.

Join us for an advance screening of Avengers Endgame: Encore, ahead of its September return to theaters in IMAX and the immersive new Infinity Vision format – including an exclusive look at the hotly anticipated December release of Avengers: Doomsday. Following the screening, directors Anthony and Joe Russo talk with Deadline’s editor at large, Mike Fleming.

In Endgame, after Thanos wipes out half the universe, the surviving Avengers are left to live with staggering loss. Five years later, a chance to undo the devastation brings them back together for one last, audacious mission — and an epic final confrontation with Thanos. Avengers: Endgame grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of all time.

Anthony and Joe Russo’s Marvel Studios credits include Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In 2017, in the middle of their Marvel run, the brothers founded AGBO, an award-winning, artist-led studio through which they’ve continued to shape global storytelling. With Avengers: Doomsday, the Russos now return to the MCU to open its next chapter.

Hear the Russo Brothers talk with Fleming about the making of Avengers: Endgame, the characters and relationships at its heart, and how they approached the monumental task of ending the Infinity Saga. And with Doomsday on the horizon, they talk about the two trailers and address Endgame’s lingering questions: Who leads the Avengers now? Where — and when — has Steve Rogers been? And what happens when changing the past finally catches up with you?

In Avengers Endgame: Encore, after devastating events wiped out half the world’s population, the remaining heroes struggle to move forward. Ultimately, they must come together to restore order and harmony in the universe and bring their loved ones back in a dramatic showdown against Thanos. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo, Trinh Tran, Jon Favreau, James Gunn and Stan Lee serve as executive producers.

Deets:
Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival where fans take actions toward ending extreme poverty in order to earn free tickets. Our festivals bring together Global Citizens, artists, activists, world leaders, philanthropists, corporate leaders, and more, with one collective mission: end extreme poverty now. It’s a moment both to celebrate all we have achieved together, and all we continue to achieve together.

The inaugural Global Citizen Festival took place on September 29, 2012, with 60,000 people in attendance on the Great Lawn in New York’s iconic Central Park. The festival featured live performances by Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses, K’Naan and more. Since then, artists like Rihanna, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Billie Eilish, and many more have performed on Global Citizen Festival stages around the world.

Global Citizen Festival is timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly to leverage opportunities to get policy and financial commitments from government, corporate, and philanthropic leaders to defeat poverty and defend the planet. Tickets to Global Citizen Festival are awarded through points earned by completing journeys on our platform to fight extreme poverty, such as signing petitions, calling your political representatives, volunteering, and more.

The line up for the 2026 Global Citizen Festival will include Ms. Lauryn Hill & Wyclef Jean celebrating the 30th anniversary of Fugees’ seminal album ‘The Score,’ John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Lenny Kravitz, Shaboozey, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Taking place on Central Park’s Great Lawn on Saturday, September 26, the festival will be hosted by Hugh Jackman, and feature appearances by Rachel Brosnahan and Gayle King, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Tickets to the Global Citizen Festival are free and can be earned by taking action on these issues on the Global Citizen app or at globalcitizenfestival.com.

Deets: The New York Transit Museum will turn back the clock for Vinyl Nights Presents Return to ’76, a disco dance party fundraiser celebrating 50 years since the Museum's debut. On Saturday, September 26, the Museum’s decommissioned subway station home will transform into a two-level dance party, with disco spinning on the mezzanine and funk and hip-hop down on the platform, all powered by the rich, analog sound of vinyl.

Throughout the evening, the entire Museum will be open for exploration. At the front of the mezzanine, guests can conga-line their way through a century of subway turnstiles, step back to the Museum’s 1976 opening through photographs, posters, and other ephemera in The New York Transit Museum: 50 Years of Stories, or rest their dancing feet in Ode to the Orange Seats. There, they can vote for their favorite subway seat and see artwork inspired by the orange and yellow seats that debuted in the 1970s and became one of the transit system’s most recognizable design icons.

Guests are encouraged to throw it back to the styles of 1976 for the evening’s costume contest. Bell-bottoms, platform shoes, jumpsuits, leisure suits, sequins, satin, and statement prints are all welcome. Whether guests go full disco or add just a touch of ’70s flair, they should come dressed to impress and ready to dance.

To enter the evening's costume contest, strut your way down the Soul Train line on the mezzanine at 8:30PM. Looks will be judged by Vinyl Nights founder and event producer Rebecca Lynn; Miss Subways 2026, Abby Fantastic; and radio personality and voice of the NYC Subway, Bernie Wagenblast. Prizes include New York Transit Museum memberships and Vinyl Nights swag.

Deets: Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone joins CBS Sunday Morning’s Tracy Smith for a conversation about the grit and determination that planted the seeds of his legendary career in the first live program in a new CBS Sunday Morning series at 92NY — and Stallone’s new memoir, The Steps.

Few images in film history are as indelible as Sylvester Stallone running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Rocky. For generations of moviegoers, those steps have come to symbolize resilience, ambition, and the determination to keep moving forward. But long before they became a cultural landmark, Stallone was climbing his own uphill path.

In his candid new memoir, The Steps, Stallone looks back on the journey behind his career. With candor and hard-earned perspective, he recounts a difficult childhood, years of being underestimated and misunderstood, and the relentless determination that carried him through rejection, financial insecurity, and countless setbacks. Framed by the years between his arrival in New York City in 1969 and Rocky’s triumphant sweep at the 1977 Academy Awards,

The Steps is both a vivid portrait of an artist finding his voice and a deeply personal reflection on the resilience required to pursue an improbable dream. In an evening of conversation with CBS Sunday Morning’s Tracy Smith, Stallone discusses the stories behind the memoir, the creation of Rocky and other iconic characters like John Rambo, and stories from the set — along with the artistry and the work ethic that has sustained Stallone through his life.

Romance reigns as thousands of guests, dressed in elegant head-to-toe white, gather at a secret landmark for an unforgettable evening where dining becomes art, strangers become friends, fashion becomes a statement, and the city itself transforms into the stage for the world's largest dinner party.

More than an event, Dîner en Blanc is a global movement that brings people together to celebrate food, wine, fashion, and community, with every guest contributing to the evening's unique magic.

Deets:
Model and viral cooking phenom Nara Smith stops by for a conversation about her debut cookbook, Homemade — and the inspiration behind her fresh, soothing, comfort-focused approach to food and wellness.

Long before her videos made her a star, Smith learned to cook alongside her father and grandmother in Germany, where homemade bread, simple ingredients, and cooking from scratch were part of everyday life. Years later, after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and eczema, she returned to those early lessons, embracing whole foods and home cooking as a way to support her health and her growing family.

Now, millions of followers later, Nara has made home cooking look incredibly chic while preparing delicious and thoughtful meals her family loves — and what began as a personal practice has evolved into a global community inspired by her calm, creative approach to life in the kitchen. Filled with recipes ranging from fresh breads and handmade pasta to family dinners, pantry staples, and favorite treats, Homemade makes cooking from scratch feel not just approachable, but one of the best gifts you can give those you love — and yourself.

Hear Smith share the stories behind the recipes — and find out why slowing down, even for a home-cooked meal, can bring more joy, connection, and creativity to everyday living.

All in-person tickets include a copy of the book.

Deets:
CAKE PICNIC® is a gathering for the love of cake. It celebrates cake in all of its forms — chiffon cakes, upside down cakes, Princess cakes, Russian honey cakes, meringue cakes, jello cakes, trifles, multi-tiered cakes, sponge cakes, butter cakes, and more. CAKE PICNIC brings communities and friends together for the purpose of breaking cake and enjoying the following butter and sugar highs. To be surrounded by as many cakes as there are humans is definitely something special, right? It is a moment in time where we come together for something truly sweet. It is a feast for the ages and you have to be there.

CAKE PICNIC was born out of a simple desire to eat a lot of cake by Elisa Sunga. She wanted to be surrounded by friends and as many cakes as possible. “In my earliest daydreams of this event, it was a small and intimate picnic of maybe 15 new friends forming a circle at the park. Once we’ve formed our circle, we would take turns introducing ourselves and what cake we brought to the picnic. I had no idea this would draw such a crowd and that everyone would share my dream so passionately.”

For the love of cake, we must.

David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara (b. 1959) featuring new paintings and drawings, recent sculptures, and early works selected by the artist. Spanning the gallery’s 537 West 20th Street and 533 West 19th Street locations in New York, this exhibition will be the artist’s first solo presentation with David Zwirner and his first major solo exhibition in New York in nearly a decade. The Japanese artist's first major NYC show in nearly a decade, the two-venue show features new paintings, large-format drawings, recent sculptures, and early works from the 1980s.

The 20th Street gallery will be devoted to Nara's 2D artwork, notably his wide-eyed portraits of childlike characters. Around the block, the 19th Street gallery will house 13 monumental bronze "snow monster" sculptures, paying homage to Nara's own childhood memories.

This exhibition will coincide with the opening of Yoshitomo Nara: Sentinels of Stillness at the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC. MEOW WOLF AT PIER 17, NYC

Art by Zac Lux

Download our Free App & Subscribe to our Newsletter for More NYC Events

Deets: Meow Wolf is coming to New York City! Our seventh exhibition will lie in the piers of Manhattan’s historic Seaport neighborhood.

Meow Wolf transforms art and storytelling through unparalleled immersive worlds. Bringing Meow Wolf to New York represents a seismic shift in art and entertainment that challenges and delights us, setting a new standard for wonder, awe, and innovation.

Meow Wolf, the creators of mind-bending immersive experiences, is heading to New York City. Their seventh permanent exhibition will open at the historic Seaport, bringing their maximalist mix of art, storytelling, and interactivity to one of the most iconic cities in the world. After years of East Coast fans asking for a Meow Wolf experience closer to home, the wait is finally over. The Seaport, a place where history and reinvention collide, is the perfect setting for Meow Wolf’s next adventure.

During South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Meow Wolf announced its next permanent exhibition to open in New York City. The reveal unfolded live on-stage, as beloved icon Plotzo, Meow Wolf’s self-proclaimed rat king of the undermallers, crashed the SXSW panel Dada for Dada: The Power of Absurdity to deliver the news.

Since its scrappy beginnings in Santa Fe in 2008, Meow Wolf has redefined how audiences engage with art. What started as an art collective transforming discarded materials into immersive experiences has evolved into a global phenomenon. With House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe as its first permanent exhibition, Meow Wolf has since expanded to Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, and Houston, with upcoming locations in Los Angeles and now, New York. Across all these worlds, one thing remains constant: Meow Wolf’s ability to transport visitors into mind-expanding, interactive realms.

New York City has long been a hub for creative invention, making it a natural fit for Meow Wolf’s first East Coast exhibition. The Seaport’s waterfront energy, cobblestone streets, and eclectic mix of culture create a space where past and future converge—an environment set to fuel Meow Wolf’s imagination.

“The energy of New York City is unlike anywhere else, and it’s the perfect place for Meow Wolf,” said Jose Tolosa, CEO of Meow Wolf. “This city has given the world so much groundbreaking art and culture, and as a New Yorker myself, where my family and I proudly call home, I’m incredibly proud that we’re bringing something truly unique to this historic and ever-evolving creative hub.”

Meow Wolf exhibitions don’t fit into neat categories. They’re not escape rooms, selfie museums, or traditional immersive experiences. They are interactive universes filled with layers of narrative, where every visitor becomes part of the story. Meow Wolf New York will push these boundaries even further connecting to Meow Wolf’s larger cosmic universe while crafting something distinctly New York.

"New York has always been a city that thrives on reinvention, making it the perfect place for Meow Wolf’s next evolution," said Vince Kadlubek, Meow Wolf Co-Founder and Chief Vision Officer. "I’ve been closely involved in bringing this to life, and I couldn’t be more excited. We’re creating something with a level of creative ambition and next-generation storytelling that pushes beyond anything we’ve done before—an experience that truly belongs in this city."

Co-Founder and mascot Benji Geary sees it through a different lens. "I’m just excited to see an exhibit of ours in the most legendary city. New York is its own planet, a hyperobject of culture—self-assured, jaded, but hungry. It devours, reinvents, and warps reality through sheer density of minds. What happens when we throw our weird into that mix? The artists, the energy, the exquisite corpse of collaboration—what egregore will emerge? This isn’t a Meow Wolf exhibit in NYC. It’s NYC’s Meow Wolf exhibit. It’s gonna be what it wants to be."

As the first Certified B Corporation in the entertainment industry, Meow Wolf is dedicated to working with local artists to ensure each exhibition reflects the heart of its host city. Meow Wolf New York will be a love letter to the stories, people, and artistic spirit that make the city an unmatched cultural powerhouse.

The theme, opening date, and more details are still to come.

September 30, October 1, and October 2 / 7:30PM

Deets: For her High Line Performance commission, Georgia Gardner Gray presents Cookie. The play follows the traditional picaresque format, a literary style developed during the height of Spain’s Golden Age in which a clever but poor hero, a pícaro, uses their wits and tricks to survive in a corrupt and crumbling society. Drawing inspiration from 16th-century picaresque novellas like Lazarillo de Tormes and Francisco de Quevedo’sThe Swindler,Cookieis a story of desperation disguised as elite ambition. At its center is Gunnar Churchwell, a sleazy yet charismatic suit salesman who arrives in Madrid, only to be recruited by the egomaniacal ringleader of a grifting crew of makeshift “tailors.” Their baseline rule for survival is simple: “never let them know you are hungry.”

Staged in the parking lot of the Meatpacking District’s former final meat purveyor, the performance unfolds aroundThe Lair, a twisted aluminum sculpture resembling a street scaffold. The performance critiques societal decay, and highlights anti-heroes who maneuver through the cracks of a glittering superpower purely to secure their next meal.

Gray works across painting, performance, and theater. Her vivid canvases depict exaggerated figures in social spaces—bars, apartments, rehearsal rooms, city streets—each imbued with the comedy, absurdity, instability, and contradiction inherent in our modern lives. As an accomplished playwright, Gray captures the tension between intimacy and display, self-awareness and satire.
