Deets:
Back Market, the leading marketplace for verified refurbished electronics, announced the opening of its first-ever retail store in New York City, bringing its mission off the screen and into a vibrant, hands-on environment.

For decades, the tech industry has spent billions to drive an “upgrade now” consumer mindset. But the reality is different: as inflation, tariffs and rising tech prices make shoppers increasingly cost-conscious, refurbished tech offers a smarter path forward.

More than a store opening, Back Market’s new space is a bold introduction of its vision to one of the world’s most influential tech hubs, showing New Yorkers firsthand how circular economy principles can power a smarter, more sustainable future. With increased interest in refurbished tech, Back Market is making it mainstream by placing products directly in consumers’ hands, offering repair services, workshops and events that make sustainability practical, rewarding and easy to act on.

Inspired by traditional markets where buying, trading, and connecting is part of everyday life, the store is warm, colorful, and bustling, not cold or sterile like typical tech retail. Key features of the store include:

  • Hands-On Experience: A “new vs. refurbished” interactive that challenges visitors to spot the difference and provides an opportunity to interact directly with refurbished tech.

  • Live Pricing & Transparency: Dynamic price tags and grading explain exactly why devices cost what they do.

  • Services First: Device diagnostics, screen repairs, device cleanings, repair advocacy, and trade-in options that highlight the ongoing value of what people already own.

  • Connectivity with Google Fi: Back Market’s first U.S. store will also be home to Google Fi Wireless. Shoppers can explore flexible, secure and reliable mobile plans that align with Back Market’s mission of smarter, not newer.

  • Programming & Events: Community panels and workshops that engage locals in conversations about Fast Tech, sustainability, and smarter consumption.

As part of this store’s opening, consumers can expect months of dynamic programming, community events and the opportunity to connect with like-minded people who understand the value of refurbished products and the importance of prioritizing sustainability efforts in the coming years. Back Market believes that refurbished tech is for everyone - and instead of fueling impulse-driven consumption, this store is built around a different idea: doing more with what you already have.

About Back Market
Back Market is a leading global marketplace for verified refurbished technology, dedicated to creating a world that does more with what already exists by extending the lifespan of electronic devices through circularity and repair. Founded in Paris in 2014, Back Market has grown by double digits year after year, now serving over 17 million customers across 17 markets. Certified B Corp since 2023, the company is committed to driving positive impact at scale.

Hint for the Average Socialite: The Back Market retail store will open on October 1, 2025 through December 21, 2025 and will be located at 449 Broadway, New York, NY 10013. The store was created in partnership with Mythology, the New York-based creative agency known for its impactful work in retail as well as branding and advertising to capture the attention of New Yorkers in the lead up to the busy holiday season. The Back Market SoHo store is about showing what’s possible. When people experience refurbished tech in person, they see the quality, the savings, and the potential to live smarter. We believe this pilot can spark real trust and momentum for a more sustainable way forward.

Deets:
Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) brings roller skating back to Brooklyn this Saturday with Empire Skate of Mind, a roller rink opening November 15 on the Museum’s rooftop terrace. Set to disco beats and fresh air, the new rink invites families to lace up and roll together. Empire Skate of Mind offers families an all-ages experience where parents skate alongside their kids, not from the sidelines.

The rink accommodates all skill levels, from first-timers learning to balance to experienced skaters gliding to disco music. BCM provides all skating equipment, including rental skates, helmets, and wrist guards. Skating tickets include full Museum access when families are ready to explore the rest of the Museum.

The rink pays homage to the legendary Empire Roller Rink, which stood less than a mile away at 200 Empire Boulevard from the 1940s through 2007. Empire was the birthplace of roller disco in New York – a place where Brooklyn came together to skate, alongside celebrities like Cher, Prince, and Elton John. BCM’s Empire Skate of Mind revives that community spirit with a fresh spin for today’s families.

Empire Skate of Mind runs November 15, 2025 through April 12, 2026, with sessions on weekdays from 2–5 pm and weekends from 10 am–5 pm. Skating tickets are $10 per person with rental skates ($8 for members), or $8 per person with your own skates ($6 for members). Museum admission is $15 per person and free for BCM members and children under one. The rink is open to ages 3 and up.

Birthday party packages are also available for families looking to celebrate on wheels. For information, visit www.brooklynkids.org/birthdays.

Our beloved snowpeople, dandelions, and colonnade return along Ninth Avenue, joined this year by a breathtaking new centerpiece: a Baccarat chandelier installation at 14th Street Square. Standing at the corner of Ninth Avenue and 14th Street, the striking Zenith Chandelier features more than 3,000 pendants, including 2,000 crafted in Baccarat’s signature red crystal, a distinct hue created by fusing clear crystal with 24-karat gold powder. Together, this installation brings timeless craftsmanship and contemporary urban design into one radiant experience.

The collaboration arrives at a milestone moment, as Baccarat celebrates the opening of its new flagship boutique at 33 Ninth Avenue, right here in the district. Inside, visitors will discover a dynamic space for design, art, and cultural encounters, showcasing the maison’s most emblematic and newest collections, exclusive collaborations, bespoke pieces, and rotating installations.

Now in its fifth year, Lights on the Cobbles Presented by Baccarat invites visitors and locals alike to experience festive luxury in an open-air setting where high design meets the joyful energy of the season. Creators, shoppers, neighbors, and the broader community are all welcome to take in the glow, capture their favorite moments, and immerse themselves in the “see + be seen” magic that defines the holidays in Meatpacking.

Operating between 2nd Avenue – Houston Street on the uptown F line and 96th Street – 2nd Avenue on the Q line, the Holiday Nostalgia Train will transport straphangers back in time every Sunday in December. Hop aboard and celebrate the magic of New York City during the holidays!

The Holiday Nostalgia Train consists of eight cars from the 1930s that ran along lettered lines through the late-1970s. The vintage Independent Subway System (IND) cars were used by the first subway company operated by the City of New York. Modern for their time, the R1/9s complimented the IND’s Depression-Era Art Deco aesthetic. Featuring rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, roll signs, and period advertisements, these are the cars that inspired Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the A Train.” Today, they are preserved as part of the New York Transit Museum’s collection.

Beauty Bakery NYC, a creator-led K-Beauty pop-up coming to SoHo this winter. Following its viral debut in Singapore, the pop-up brings together Haleybaylee, Evelyn Ha, Erica Ha, and Amyflamy, alongside 20 Korean beauty brands, for an immersive beauty-meets-culture experience. Their diverse perspectives capture what modern beauty means across cultures — confident, expressive, and community-driven.

On the heels of its inaugural event in Singapore, Beauty Bakery is making its U.S. debut this December with ‘Beauty Bakery New York’ - a week-long, creator-led K-Beauty experience celebrating the theme “City Girls’ Beauty Recipe.”

The pop-up will take over 21 Greene Street in SoHo from December 9–15, 2025 and feature four of the most influential North American creators — Haleyybaylee, Evelyn Ha, Erica Ha, and AmyFlamy — along with 20 leading and emerging K-Beauty brands. The pop-up is being produced by Oddins Inc. - a Seoul-based entertainment group bridging creators and cultures.

Select Participating Brands: The Face Shop, Dear Klairs, d’Alba, Medicube, Torriden, Isntree, Unove, Hince, Purito, Mixsoon, fwee, BRMUD, Bringgreen, essenherb, House of Balance, Bano, Entropy, Colorgram, Keyth, and more.

At Beauty Bakery NYC, each creator becomes a “Beauty Chef,” curating her own City Girls’ Beauty Recipe, which is a selection of five brands hand-picked by the creators themselves that reflect her individual beauty style. Guests will also be able to discover new Korean beauty brands currently trending in Seoul (or what the pop-up is calling ‘freshly baked brands’) that are making their way into the U.S. market.

Deets:
This one's for the cat people! Petlibro, North America's #1 brand in smart pet feeding and watering supplies¹, is lighting up the holiday season to highlight their latest feline innovation - the Luma Smart Litter Box. Unveiling in the home of the most iconic tree lighting, New York City, Petlibro introduces 'Lit By Sh*t' - a playful twist on the holiday tree lighting tradition - all in an effort to spotlight cat health.

No string lights or tinsel needed, this 73-foot-tall digital tree projection is powered by cat poop beginning Wednesday, December 10th. When real cats use their Luma Smart Litter Box, an ornament lights up on the larger-than-life illumination. The experience mirrors the AI-powered information the Luma Smart Litter Box provides cat parents each time their pet visits the Luma. Because pet parents and Petlibro know, the best data about your cat's well-being is in their dumps.

While Lit By Sh*t is meant to bring cheeky cheer to the holidays, Petlibro's mission to foster better cat care is the real reason to be joyful this season. The brand has designated EveryCat Health Foundation, the world's only nonprofit focused solely on feline health internationally, as the beneficiary of this campaign to fundraise for groundbreaking cat health research with an initial donation from Petlibro of $22,222. Inspired by their mission? Head to petlibro.com/donationdump December 10th - 16th to make a contribution to EveryCat Health Foundation of $22, $222, or any other amount. Because after all, the magic lies in the number two.

The Lit By Sh*t tree will light up every evening (if nature calls) from Wednesday, December 10th, through Tuesday, December 16th, at 6th Avenue and Waverly Place near Washington Square Park.

In the holiday spirit, dogs and their parents are welcome too.

Deets:
FAREwell, MetroCard opens at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn on December 17 and invites visitors to reflect on the card that shaped daily life for millions. The exhibition explores the MetroCard’s origins, its systemwide rollout, the technology and operations that made it work, and the many ways it became a cultural icon for a generation of riders.

EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS :

Early adoption and education: SubTalk ads, pilot brochures, and photographs of the first turnstiles activated in 1994 show how riders learned a new way to pay.

The mascot that might have been: A proposed campaign from 1993 introduced the Cardvaark, a high-tech but lovable character imagined to “sell” the card to customers.

Prototype for a new way to pay: On view is a 1997 MetroCard Vending Machine (MVM) prototype designed by Antenna Design for the MTA. The MVM let riders buy and refill cards beyond token booths, using color cues like green for inserting cash and yellow for the MetroCard, to guide the process.

From fare card to cultural canvas: Limited edition and promotional cards featuring artists, athletes, and entertainment icons, including series for David Bowie, WorldPride, and television and film.

Safety, wayfinding, and rider information: MetroCards used as tools to communicate service changes, safety campaigns, and programs like BusTime, The Weekender, and the 511 information service.

Poetry in Motion and Train of Thought: Cards and car cards that brought verse and ideas to commutes across the city.

The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala®) / May 4
Met Gala Exhibition Dates: / May 10 – January 10, 2027

Deets:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, Costume Art, which will examine the centrality of the dressed body, juxtaposing objects from across the Museum’s vast collection with historical and contemporary garments from The Costume Institute. The exhibition will be the first show in The Met’s new nearly 12,000-square-foot Galleries adjacent to the Great Hall, which will display The Costume Institute’s annual spring exhibition and transform visitors’ experience at this important nexus of the Museum. Costume Art will be on view at The Met Fifth Avenue from May 10, 2026, through January 10, 2027.

To celebrate the opening of the spring 2026 exhibition, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala) on Monday, May 4. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will co-chair the Gala Host Committee, with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult. Additional members of the Host Committee and the evening’s dress code will be announced at a later date. The Met Gala® takes place annually on the first Monday in May, with proceeds providing The Costume Institute with its primary source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and operations. The funds raised also support other Museum activities.

Focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, Costume Art will be organized into a series of thematic body types that reflect their ubiquity and endurance through time and space. These comparisons will highlight the inextricable relationship between clothing and the body and reveal that artistic representations of the body are shaped by the garments that clothe them and that the garments, in turn, are shaped by the bodies which they clothe.

In recognition of a significant lead gift from Condé Nast, the new nearly 12,000-square-foot Galleries will be named for the company’s founder, the late Condé M. Nast. Additional generous contributions toward the renovation are provided by Thom Browne, and Michael Kors and Lance Le Pere. Further support is provided by Met Trustee Aerin Lauder, Tory Burch LLC, Nancy C. and Richard R. Rogers, as well as Met Trustee Amy Griffin and John Griffin.

The exhibition and Benefit are made possible by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.

Additional support is provided by Saint Laurent and Condé Nast.

The catalogue is made possible by Saint Laurent.

Hint for the Average Socialite: The Met Gala is strictly invitation only. The Costume Art Exhibition is open to the public.

Deets:
Flower Power May 23–October 18, 2026 Immerse yourself in a groovy and colorful flower show at Flower Power, a joyous celebration of the enduring symbolism of flowers as icons of peace and love. The exhibition combines vibrant monumental installations and botanical tableaus alongside photography, posters, paintings, and drawings, to highlight the ways in which, during the rise of "hippie culture" in the 1960s, fowers took on resonance as creative and enduring symbols that advanced closer relationships with the natural world. On view in NYBG's galleries and throughout NYBG's grounds, the exhibition invites visitors to “come together” and embrace flowers as meaningful symbols in our own lives.

MEOW WOLF AT PIER 17, NYC

Art by Zac Lux

Deets: Meow Wolf is coming to New York City! Our seventh exhibition will lie in the piers of Manhattan’s historic Seaport neighborhood.

Meow Wolf transforms art and storytelling through unparalleled immersive worlds. Bringing Meow Wolf to New York represents a seismic shift in art and entertainment that challenges and delights us, setting a new standard for wonder, awe, and innovation.

Meow Wolf, the creators of mind-bending immersive experiences, is heading to New York City. Their seventh permanent exhibition will open at the historic Seaport, bringing their maximalist mix of art, storytelling, and interactivity to one of the most iconic cities in the world. After years of East Coast fans asking for a Meow Wolf experience closer to home, the wait is finally over. The Seaport, a place where history and reinvention collide, is the perfect setting for Meow Wolf’s next adventure.

During South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Meow Wolf announced its next permanent exhibition to open in New York City. The reveal unfolded live on-stage, as beloved icon Plotzo, Meow Wolf’s self-proclaimed rat king of the undermallers, crashed the SXSW panel Dada for Dada: The Power of Absurdity to deliver the news.

Since its scrappy beginnings in Santa Fe in 2008, Meow Wolf has redefined how audiences engage with art. What started as an art collective transforming discarded materials into immersive experiences has evolved into a global phenomenon. With House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe as its first permanent exhibition, Meow Wolf has since expanded to Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, and Houston, with upcoming locations in Los Angeles and now, New York. Across all these worlds, one thing remains constant: Meow Wolf’s ability to transport visitors into mind-expanding, interactive realms.

New York City has long been a hub for creative invention, making it a natural fit for Meow Wolf’s first East Coast exhibition. The Seaport’s waterfront energy, cobblestone streets, and eclectic mix of culture create a space where past and future converge—an environment set to fuel Meow Wolf’s imagination.

“The energy of New York City is unlike anywhere else, and it’s the perfect place for Meow Wolf,” said Jose Tolosa, CEO of Meow Wolf. “This city has given the world so much groundbreaking art and culture, and as a New Yorker myself, where my family and I proudly call home, I’m incredibly proud that we’re bringing something truly unique to this historic and ever-evolving creative hub.”

Meow Wolf exhibitions don’t fit into neat categories. They’re not escape rooms, selfie museums, or traditional immersive experiences. They are interactive universes filled with layers of narrative, where every visitor becomes part of the story. Meow Wolf New York will push these boundaries even further connecting to Meow Wolf’s larger cosmic universe while crafting something distinctly New York.

"New York has always been a city that thrives on reinvention, making it the perfect place for Meow Wolf’s next evolution," said Vince Kadlubek, Meow Wolf Co-Founder and Chief Vision Officer. "I’ve been closely involved in bringing this to life, and I couldn’t be more excited. We’re creating something with a level of creative ambition and next-generation storytelling that pushes beyond anything we’ve done before—an experience that truly belongs in this city."

Co-Founder and mascot Benji Geary sees it through a different lens. "I’m just excited to see an exhibit of ours in the most legendary city. New York is its own planet, a hyperobject of culture—self-assured, jaded, but hungry. It devours, reinvents, and warps reality through sheer density of minds. What happens when we throw our weird into that mix? The artists, the energy, the exquisite corpse of collaboration—what egregore will emerge? This isn’t a Meow Wolf exhibit in NYC. It’s NYC’s Meow Wolf exhibit. It’s gonna be what it wants to be."

As the first Certified B Corporation in the entertainment industry, Meow Wolf is dedicated to working with local artists to ensure each exhibition reflects the heart of its host city. Meow Wolf New York will be a love letter to the stories, people, and artistic spirit that make the city an unmatched cultural powerhouse.

The theme, opening date, and more details are still to come.

Deets:
Be among the first to experience Goodbye June, Kate Winslet’s deeply felt — and already widely anticipated — directorial debut. Following a special advance screening, Winslet joins us in conversation to discuss bringing this intimate family story to the screen.

Written by her son Joe Anders, the film follows four siblings whose lives shift when their sharp-tongued, ailing mother (Helen Mirren) chooses to orchestrate her own final farewell over the holiday season. Starring Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, Stephen Merchant, and Winslet herself, Goodbye June weaves humor and heartbreak into a meditation on family, memory, and the complicated grace of letting go.

Winslet, an Oscar and two-time Emmy winner whose recent work includes Lee, The Regime, and the forthcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash, reflects on stepping behind the camera, collaborating with Mirren and her exceptional ensemble, and the vulnerability that continues to shape her artistry.

December 8 / 9AM-10:30AM and 1PM-4:30PM

Deets:
Rockefeller Center is hosting a pop-up playground of sorts, GE Vernova’s Innovators Toy Land. The activation will take over the plaza with a bustling playground aimed at kids and adults who are invited to play with hands-on STEM exhibits and meet scientists. It's all meant to inspire creativity, playfulness and innovation.

The event takes place on December 8 between 9AM and 10:30AM and then again between 1PM and 4:30PM. Expect to play around with some time-honored toys like Slinky (the “walking” spring first sold in 1945), Lite-Bright (the light box with colored pegs that lets kids “draw” with light, first sold in 1967) and Rubik’s Cube (the 3-D box puzzle invented in Hungary and first sold in the U.S. in 1980). There will also be Snap Circuits, a toy first released in 2002, which helps kids understand circuits as they build them, teaching the science of electronics by making it fun. Families can visit the Snap Circuit toy grid station where they can connect circuits, activate switches and experiment with energy.

Santa will arrive at the New York Stock Exchange on a John Deere tractor, kicking off a holiday celebration designed to spotlight the farmers behind the season — from the milk in your morning latte to the fuel powering holiday travel. They will host a street-side celebration honoring the people who feed, clothe, and fuel America, bringing a touch of rural life to Wall Street.

Highlights:

  • Free coffee and hot chocolate for commuters

  • Goodies handed out by Santa and his helpers

  • Live music

In the spirit of the season, John Deere is also extending support to two NYC food banks — Food Bank For New York City and City Harvest — whose networks serve communities facing food insecurity. It’s a way to give back locally while celebrating the farmers who make so much of the season possible.
