Deets: Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) brings roller skating back to Brooklyn this Saturday with Empire Skate of Mind, a roller rink opening November 15 on the Museum’s rooftop terrace. Set to disco beats and fresh air, the new rink invites families to lace up and roll together. Empire Skate of Mind offers families an all-ages experience where parents skate alongside their kids, not from the sidelines.
The rink accommodates all skill levels, from first-timers learning to balance to experienced skaters gliding to disco music. BCM provides all skating equipment, including rental skates, helmets, and wrist guards. Skating tickets include full Museum access when families are ready to explore the rest of the Museum.
The rink pays homage to the legendary Empire Roller Rink, which stood less than a mile away at 200 Empire Boulevard from the 1940s through 2007. Empire was the birthplace of roller disco in New York – a place where Brooklyn came together to skate, alongside celebrities like Cher, Prince, and Elton John. BCM’s Empire Skate of Mind revives that community spirit with a fresh spin for today’s families.
Empire Skate of Mind runs November 15, 2025 through April 12, 2026, with sessions on weekdays from 2–5 pm and weekends from 10 am–5 pm. Skating tickets are $10 per person with rental skates ($8 for members), or $8 per person with your own skates ($6 for members). Museum admission is $15 per person and free for BCM members and children under one. The rink is open to ages 3 and up.
Birthday party packages are also available for families looking to celebrate on wheels. For information, visit www.brooklynkids.org/birthdays.
