Moderator Annette Insdorf will interview James L. Brooks, the renowned writer-director-producer, before a preview screening of his latest comedy. They will be joined by actor Albert Brooks for part of the onstage conversation.

James L. Brooks is best known for the Oscar-nominated titles Terms of Endearment (1997), Broadcast News (1987), and As Good as It Gets (1997). For his first feature — which starred Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson — he won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. He is also the recipient of 22 PrimeTime Emmy awards. As executive producer, he has won 11 for The Simpsons (1989), three for Taxi (1978), three for The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) and one for The Tracey Ullman Show (1987).

Albert Brooks (no relation) is the writer, director and star of films including Real Life, Modern Romance, Lost in America, Defending Your Life, Mother, and The Muse. As an actor, he has been featured in films from Scorsese’s Taxi Driver to James L. Brooks’ Broadcast News, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Most recently, Brooks’ life and career was featured in the HBO documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life — directed by Rob Reiner — which received four Emmy® nominations.

In the comedy Ella McCay, Emma Mackey plays an energetically idealistic young woman who becomes the governor of her state, only to encounter challenges from politicians as well as family members. These include Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, and Albert Brooks.
