Deets: The stunning urban sunset phenomenon known as Manhattanhenge returns soon, with peak viewing opportunities on May 28 and 29. During these evenings, the setting sun will align perfectly with Manhattan’s street grid, casting a golden glow between the skyscrapers.

This dramatic sight happens again on July 12, but similar, though slightly off-center, effects can be seen on nearby dates as the sun continues to set further north. The term "Manhattanhenge" refers to this alignment - when sunlight streams directly down the city’s crosstown streets, creating breathtaking views framed by the city’s high-rises.

If you're planning to go, aim to be in position by 7:30PM, as the spectacle peaks around 8:15PM on both days.

Hint for the Average Socialite: Prime viewing spots include major cross streets like 42nd and 72nd, as well as elevated areas such as the Tudor City overpass. You can also catch great views from across the East River at locations like Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter’s Point in Queens.
