Deets: The Garment District Alliance has unveiled Clouds, a whimsical public art installation by internationally acclaimed Swiss artist Olaf Breuning, featuring six steel and aluminum sculptures reaching up to 33 feet tall. The installation transforms the Broadway plazas between 39th and 40th Streets, offering an unexpected contrast to the architecture and energy of Midtown.
Originally conceived in 2013 and previously presented at Central Park’s Freedman Plaza, in England and at Art Omi in upstate New York, Clouds has now returned to New York City for a new chapter in the heart of Midtown. The free installation will be on view through March 2027 as part of the Garment District Alliance’s Art on the Plazas program, in partnership with NYC DOT Art.
Hint for the Average Socialite: This installation is open to the public. The sculptures – which are free to view and will be accessible to the public through March 2027 – are part of Garment District Art on the Plazas, a year-round public art program made possible through NYC DOT Art Partners, an initiative of the New York City Department of Transportation’s art program, NYC DOT Art. The Garment District Alliance and NYC DOT work closely to coordinate and install exhibits and individual pieces to enhance public plazas and make them even more welcoming to New Yorkers.
