Deets: Set in modern-day Iran, Cast Aside the Clouds follows Layla, a young Baha’i woman, and Sasan, a respected doctor, whose relationship unfolds against the pressures of religious discrimination, societal expectations, and political tension. Through an intimate cross-cultural love story, the film explores themes of resilience, freedom, identity, and the human impact of systemic persecution.
At a time when global conversations continue around women’s rights, civil liberties, and life inside Iran, the film offers a deeply personal lens into the emotional realities behind those headlines. Rather than focusing solely on politics, Cast Aside the Clouds centers human relationships, family, hope, and survival.
The New York premiere will take place Monday, May 18, at SVA Theatre as part of Community Week NYC, with appearances by Penn Badgley, director Mary Darling, co-directors Bre Vader and Felicia Sobhani, and cast members including Parmiss Sehat. Additional guests expected.
