Deets:
Join neighbors for a fun day in McCarren Park and help build support for car-free parks in North Brooklyn and across NYC

Join us for a joyful day of community and family-friendly activities at the McCarren Park Block Party and the launch of a citywide Car-Free Parks campaign!

The Block Party will take place on Driggs Avenue between Lorimer Street and N 12th Street, which we want to turn into a car-free street, connecting the two halves of McCarren Park and expanding space for people. Let's celebrate what our streets and parks can become when we prioritize people over cars.

The day will include a community block party from 10 am to 2 pm and a rally for Car-Free Parks at 11 am (mid-block on Driggs Ave. between Lorimer St. and N 12th St.).

Programming throughout the day includes:
• Community bike wash (just bring your bike, scooter, skateboard, etc) and Propel will provide the supplies
• Trash cleanup
• Puzzle and game swap
• Repair bar
• Bird watching walk
• Ping pong by Ping Pong in NYC Parks & Plazas
• Banner painting

Hosted in partnership with:
• NBK Open Streets
• North Brooklyn Parks Alliance
• New Yorkers for Parks
• Transportation Alternatives
• Propel
• Ping Pong in NYC Parks & Plazas

As New York City continues to grow, our parks and open spaces must grow too. Driggs Avenue through McCarren Park is one example of a roadway that divides a park while limiting space for recreation, gathering, and community. The Car-Free Parks campaign calls on the city to develop a long-term plan to reduce and eliminate cars from parks to reconnect neighborhoods, expand usable open space, improve safety and design our parks for people, not cars.

P.S. Want to support the movement before the event?
• Sign the Car-Free Parks petition
• Sign the Connect & Expand Parks petition
• Sign the petition to turn Driggs Ave. into a car-free plaza that will expand McCarren Park

Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is open to the public. RSVP free now!
