Deets: Football is Freedom, a new exhibition by Mercer Labs’ co-founder and artist, Roy Nachum, in collaboration with the Marley family, transforms the world’s game into a multi-sensory cultural experience exploring the relationship between music, football, and collective culture through a series of large-scale cinematic environments. Football is Freedom will be presented at Mercer Labs in Manhattan, opening Friday, June 12 through July 31, 2026. Tickets are on sale now at Mercer Labs.

Football Is Freedom combines art, sound, film, and technology to explore football as a universal language that connects people across generations, geographies, and identities. Throughout the exhibition, stadium chants, archival footage, spatial sound, and immersive visual worlds come together to capture the emotional energy surrounding the game and the culture that exists around it.

Conceived by Nachum and created by the Mercer Labs in-house creative studio with Rohan Marley, the exhibition sheds light on a more intimate side of Marley’s relationship with football — not only as a passion, but as a reflection of freedom, rhythm, movement, and humanity. The exhibition features a series of interconnected environments, including large-scale immersive worlds, responsive sound environments, and cinematic performance moments.

Football is one of the few places where hierarchy disappears — everyone becomes equal once the ball touches the ground. That mirrors everything Bob Marley stood for: unity through rhythm, movement, and collective energy. Marley saw the game as something larger. He saw community.
— Roy Nachum, co-founder and creative director of Mercer Labs
