Deets: Every New Yorker should have the opportunity to experience the Metropolitan Opera, regardless of income or background. The Met is not just a globally recognized cultural icon; it is also New York’s opera house, an essential institution that truly belongs to the city’s residents.
In an exciting new partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office, the Met will distribute 70,000 of its tickets each season to eligible New Yorkers—free of charge—via a lottery on the Met Opera app, as well as through various distribution methods with organizations across the city.
To qualify for the free-ticket lottery, you must be a resident of New York City with a valid ID, have not purchased a ticket to the Met since 2019, and have the Met Opera app downloaded on your device. Residency and ticket history will be verified through the Met Opera app. If you believe you qualify, but do not have an ID, please contact Met Customer Care at 212.362.6000.
Hint for the Average Socialite: Learn more & download the app! Free tickets are made available the day before a performance via a lottery, accessible only to eligible New York City residents, made available through the Met Opera app. You may win up to two tickets per performance and may enter one lottery at a time. Entry to the lottery closes at 7:45AM ET the day before each eligible for performance.
Winners will be notified via email and, if opted in, via push notification on their device. The drawings take place at 8AM ET, and winners will be notified shortly thereafter. Digital tickets will be delivered within the app approximately two hours prior to performance time.
