Deets: The New York Transit Museum will turn back the clock for Vinyl Nights Presents Return to ’76, a disco dance party fundraiser celebrating 50 years since the Museum's debut. On Saturday, September 26, the Museum’s decommissioned subway station home will transform into a two-level dance party, with disco spinning on the mezzanine and funk and hip-hop down on the platform, all powered by the rich, analog sound of vinyl.

Throughout the evening, the entire Museum will be open for exploration. At the front of the mezzanine, guests can conga-line their way through a century of subway turnstiles, step back to the Museum’s 1976 opening through photographs, posters, and other ephemera in The New York Transit Museum: 50 Years of Stories, or rest their dancing feet in Ode to the Orange Seats. There, they can vote for their favorite subway seat and see artwork inspired by the orange and yellow seats that debuted in the 1970s and became one of the transit system’s most recognizable design icons.

Guests are encouraged to throw it back to the styles of 1976 for the evening’s costume contest. Bell-bottoms, platform shoes, jumpsuits, leisure suits, sequins, satin, and statement prints are all welcome. Whether guests go full disco or add just a touch of ’70s flair, they should come dressed to impress and ready to dance.

To enter the evening's costume contest, strut your way down the Soul Train line on the mezzanine at 8:30PM. Looks will be judged by Vinyl Nights founder and event producer Rebecca Lynn; Miss Subways 2026, Abby Fantastic; and radio personality and voice of the NYC Subway, Bernie Wagenblast. Prizes include New York Transit Museum memberships and Vinyl Nights swag.
