Deets: Unofficial and Skate Essex Presents COURTS: A Gallery Show. from April 29th thru May 20th.

For the past few years, a thriving skateboarding community has cultivated in Montclair Township, composed of kids and adults of all ages and ethnicities. After numerous unsuccessful attempts at creating a designated skating area in town, the community finally landed successfully on a netless tennis court in Rand Park, the red and blue asphalt being the perfect surface for skating. A DIY initiative has been created to fund the construction of a permanent skatepark on the court, and the future for Montclair’s skate community is looking bright.

“COURTS,” curated by Sam Balaban and Evan Eden in conjunction with Skate Essex and Unofficial Skate, is the debut art show in Clairidge Theater’s new gallery space. Highlighting the thriving community of skaters and artists that call the skatepark home, the show is designed to bring awareness to the positive impact that the ‘Courts’ has brought to the township, and the continued impact that a fully formed skatepark will have on the community in the future.
