Deets: On October 28, the Flatiron NoMad Partnership invites New Yorkers to embrace Dia de Muertos, a Mexican traditional holiday that honors the souls of our ancestors and loved ones who have passed.
A day of remembrance, Dia de Muertos is observed in Mexico by celebrating these lives with tokens and mementos that keep them here with us. This year, New Yorkers can participate with a larger than life community altar making its debut on the Flatiron North Plaza on October 28.
To kick off the district-wide festivities, visitors and families of all ages are invited for a community celebration on October 28 from 3PM-7PM on the Flatiron North Plaza, featuring activities and performances including:
A curated mix of Mexican folklore performances by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company
Día de Muertos-inspired booklet making with artists from Center for Book Arts
DIY printmaking with Poster House
La Catrina face painting and sugar skull decorating
Traditional papel picado by Tanya Aguiñiga Studio and other themed decor taking over the district
Hint for the Average Socialite: This event is open to the public.
