Deets: There is an upcoming celebration of Madison Square Park’s Moon Tree—an American Sweetgum grown from a seed gifted to the park by NASA after it orbited the moon—on Thursday, July 16 from 12PM-8PM. The Launch Party celebrates one year of growth for the tree with space-themed, family-oriented programming, including:
Solar observations through telescopes, binoculars, and LightSound devices, which allow you to “listen” to the sun
Tours through the Celestial Gardens, a display of more than 10,000 plants with shapes, colors, names, and other attributes evoking space and celestial bodies
New York State Poet Laureate Kimiko Hahn reading her new poem about the Moon Tree’s journey
“Ask a Scientist” sessions with researchers from the Simons Foundation
Celestial-themed scavenger hunts and artmaking; and moreThe day’s main celebration will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, including a special children’s presentation at 4:30 PM and closing remarks at 7:15 PM.
